Our church began in 1902. It is said they
organized into a church at a brush arbor or tent meeting. Captain Frances
Murray gave the parcel of land on which the church is now located. The new
congregation was first known as the Murray Chapel Church, and later was listed as Boldo Methodist Episcopal Church in the archives of the Alabama Conference
of The Methodist Church in 1903. For many decades the church was called Boldo United Methodist Church. In 2023 when the church moved their affiliation from the United Methodist Church to the Congregational Methodist Church they changed their name to Boldo Community Christian Church.
The church was part of a circuit with a riding pastor. Other
churches in the circuit that shared the pastor included Cordova Methodist
Church, Friendship Church, and Union Chapel Methodist Church. In 1981 the
church was taken off the circuit and has had its own pastor ever since. Many wonderful pastors were assigned by The United Methodist Church and faithfully preached and served at our church for many years.
In 1978 a second parcel of property was given by Almus and
Esther Powell to be used for a church parsonage. The restriction for its use was
removed in 2002 and the property now hosts a playground for the children of the
community.
In the mid 1940s the congregation built a beautiful red brick
church. In the 1980’s the congregation added bathrooms and several Sunday
School rooms. In the early 1990’s the Aaron family gave a lighted church sign
in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Aaron.
Over the years, our church, now named Boldo Community Christian Church, has supported
numerous charities, missions and community services such as the Methodist
Children’s Home and Eldridge Children’s Home, Special Camp at Camp Sumatanga,
and Valley Elementary School. The church’s Benevolence Fund helped to create a clothes
closet to provide gently used donated clothing at no charge for those in need
in our community. Donations from the church along with a grant from the Walker Community Foundation and the generosity of Grace Klein and Central Alabama Food bank has enabled us to provide food to our neighbors in need.
We are a small family with a big heart dedicated to Jesus
Christ, the Great Commission, and serving Jesus by serving others. The doors of
the church are open to all who would enter to worship. The heart and arms of
the church family are always open to receive all who seek the fellowship of a
Christian family. The alter is always open to those with a burden to seek the
Lord’s face in earnest prayer or who would receive Jesus as Savior and Lord.
